Beginning Joomla! is a great reference and has been in our library form a couple of years now. It is straight forward and covers subject matter for both the beginner and as a refresher for the developer. The book covers all the basic features and even includes a beginning guide to using the e-commerce component VirtueMart.

Joomla! E-Commerce with VirtueMart is the book for those that are using Joomla and VirtueMart as either a E-Commerce shopping cart or an online catalog. This book goes beyond the VirtueMart manual to provide more detail and instruction regarding setting up a online store or catalog. We recommend this book for our customers that will use VirtueMart for their E-Commerce solution.
When you are ready for the deep end "Professional Joomla!" get you wet quickly. This book is not for the beginner and gets into the more technical aspects of Joomla!. The chapter on search engine optimization does a good job of supplying a basis from which you can improve your site ranking.


Magento Reference Books
Magento e-commerce is one the most powerful open source shopping cart application available today. It is also one of the newest so there are not many books available. Magento Beginner's Guide is a great start. It takes time to explain the basics of the product model used by Magento from categories, attributes, to the different types of products. It does a decent job explaining what needs to be done to get your cart/store configured properly. At the end of the book it has quick step by step references for many of the administrative task.
