What's a content management system (CMS)?

A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don't have to.

Design and Expandability

Joomla is template and component driven. Templates give your site it look and feel. Like the color scheme and menu locations. Components expand the basic Joomla software to add new and more powerful features like e-commerce shopping carts, multimedia, graphs & charts, calculator and much much more.

This gives you the ability to create a great looking site just like the professionals at a tiny fraction of what it would cost to have a custom site designed and built.

What do I need to do to get started?

If you have ever filled out a form online you can administer Joomla. The entire administration is done online using your browser to fill out forms that handle all aspects of configuring and entering your sites content. Even uploading media is done via a form.

There are just a few steps to get started.

  1. To get started you need to sign up for a hosting package.
  2. Once your site is setup you will receive an email that will give you the login information.
  3. When you login to add joomla just click on the easy app icon in your control panel.
  4. Answer the questions in the insaller and your in about a minute your joomla site will be ready for you to start adding your content.
  5. Just login to the Joomla administration area to add your content and to configure the site parameters to suit your needs.

Additional Joomla functionality or templates are added from the administration area. Some great Joomla Templates are available by clicking here.
